QS World Rankings ranks the University of Hong Kong consistently within the top 3 universities in Asia, a brilliant opportunity!
The oldest university in Hong Kong, situated in Pok Fu Lam, in the western end of the southern district on Hong Kong Island
The University of Hong Kong is ranked amongst the top 50 universities in the world. It is the oldest university in Hong Kong, being founded in 1910 and has a sound international reputation as both a teaching and also a research university. It draws a large proportion of its academic staff from institutions overseas and prides itself on the high calibre of its 19,000 plus students.
Located at the western edge of Hong Kong island, the main campus overlooks the sea and is well connected to the rest of Hong Kong island and Kowloon and contains some of the few remaining examples of British colonial architecture in Hong Kong, which provide a marked contrast to the high-rise glittering sky-scrapers of modern Hong Kong. Arriving at the main campus from the airport takes only about 20 minutes although there are further campuses throughout the rest of Hong Kong and up in the New Territories.
A new Centennial campus has been completed in 2012. It offers wide range of facilities: fitness centres, swimming pools, computer centres, health clinic and dental services, canteens (dining halls) serving various cuisines, and numerous student societies and interest clubs. HKU has a supportive learning environment, with a library opened seven days a week and wireless internet access throughout the main campus.
Kowloon peninsular, with impressive high-rise buildings, leads to the rest of the mountainous New Territories and the land borders with the Peoples Republic of China – of which Hong Kong is now an autonomous region. Here are the lush, subtropical forests and quiet village oasis, which will give you a place to catch your breathe after the stresses of the city.
The northern coastline of the island is where you will find most of the iconic high-rise buildings typical of the Hong Kong sky-line. Due to the high population density and 24/7 lifestyle, Hong Kong can sometimes seem an overwhelmingly busy place. However the south of Hong Kong Island is greener with a much less dense population – and some beautiful beaches - a great place to escape to.
Hong Kong is a well positioned travel hub from which to explore South East Asia and typical destinations within reach of Hong Kong include: mainland China, Macau, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Borneo, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and East Timor.
